About My Practice
My practice is limited to house calls only. That is another way of saying that I do not have an office anywhere for you to bring your pet to me. Because I don't have the overhead of maintaining an office, my prices on cat and dog vaccines and medications are very competitive. On the other hand, I am very limited in what I types of things I can do for cats and dogs. I do not perform surgery on cats and dogs because I do not have a proper surgery facility. You might be surprised to learn that the law in New Mexico requires that surgeries on dogs and cats be performed only in a room that is designated specifically for that purpose. This well-meaning law prevents charitable organizations from holding spay and neuter clinics in community centers and fire stations, as is sometimes done in other states. If a charitable organization wants to hold a spay-neuter clinic in a remote
community, their only option is to do it in a mobile facility designed for that purpose. If you have ever wondered why a state in such desperate need of low-cost spay and neuter services has so few, now you know. The major hurdle is the cost of a mobile facility that will comply with state law.
Because I ride alone without an assistant, I do not do any laboratory tests on cats and dogs that require drawing a blood sample. When I first started this practice, I did try to do this, so it's possible that I may have done this for your pet if I saw him a few years ago. What I have found, though, is that without a helper to restrain the animal for the blood draw, the proceedure is way too emotionally upsetting for both the pet and the owner. Please don't try to talk me into changing my new policy or making an exception for your pet.
The things that I can do for dogs and cats are mainly vaccinations, deworming, nail trims, heartworm prevention, chiropractic adjustments and home euthanasia.
I offer a much wider variety of services for horses, including vaccinations, dentistry (tooth floating and extractions), laceration repair, medical treatment of colic, colt castrations, chiropractic adjustments, and consultations on diet and behavior issues.
Though I do not routinely see goats or sheep, I will repair lacerations and treat wounds if your animal is injured.
